Loosen Soot in Your Chimney

We already mentioned how salt is a great way to put out grease fires, but did you know you can also burn salt to loosen the soot inside your chimney? If you have a brick fireplace table salt is a great way to remove soot.

All you need to do is pour a few tablespoons of salt into the flames while the fire is going. The fire will turn a gorgeous yellow, too! Once the flames have died down, you can clean the soot in a much easier manner. This also improves airflow and aids in fire safety.
