Some type of back strengthening exercises can reduce chronic back and neck pain. Movement is a natural treatment for many types of pain. Because exercise can release a hormone called endorphins which help to stop pain by binding to opioid receptors in the brain. Walking, swimming, and biking may all help reduce back pain. Start with short sessions and build up over time. If your back is hurting, try swimming, where the water supports your body.
