Alan Alda has won six Emmys and a Golden Globe for his role in M*A*S*H as Hawkeye Pierce. In addition to his role in the war series, he also was part of the real thing, serving in the Army in Korea. After being discharged and appearing on M*A*S*H, he became part of the show The West Wing, Thirty Rock, and Scientific American Frontiers.
He also had success in film, both as an actor and a director. He appeared in Crimes and Misdemeanors and The Aviator, winning an Oscar nomination for the latter. He directed the movie The Four Seasons, to critical acclaim.
