Shaggy (born Orville Burrell) is a Jamaican singer who is best known for his song “It Wasn’t Me.” What people might not have guessed about him is that he was a member of the Marines. He enlisted in 1988, and he obtained the MOS of Field Artillery Cannon Crewman (0811).
He served during the Persian Gulf War as part of the Field Artillery Battery. He achieved the rank of lance corporal, though he was demoted in rank twice for reasons unknown. Shaggy allegedly perfected his singing voice while serving in the Marines. He was discharged in 1991, and he began a music career.
