Oscar-winning actor Robert Duvall spent two of his formative years serving in the U.S. Army. Though he finished his service with the rank of Private First Class, he often jokes that he was “barely qualified with the M-1 rifle in basic training.” After completing his service, Duvall moved to New York City to pursue an acting career (his roommates at this time included Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman).
After breaking out with star-making performances in classic American hits like Network, The Godfather, The Natural and Tender Mercies (which won him an Oscar), Duvall went into business for himself by founding his own production company, Butcher’s Run Films. As the company’s president and CEO, Duvall developed film and TV projects for himself to star in, and sometimes even direct personally.
