Steve McQueen was known as the “King of Cool” for his on-screen persona. The actor and racecar driver enlisted in the Marines before he turned eighteen after he got his mother to give him permission in 1947. He was sent to boot camp at Parris Island. He served for three years before receiving an honorable discharge.
Later, in interviews, McQueen would say he enjoyed his time in the Marines. McQueen would go on to become a big box office star post-military, appearing in movies such as Bullitt, Le Mans, The Great Escape, Papillon, The Magnificent Seven, and many more.
