Alec Guinness had his first role when he was twenty, and that would be a precursor to the fame and wealth he would achieve with his Star Wars roles. Guinness would take a break from acting in 1941, entering military service as a Royal Navy Volunteer Reservist. He entered WWII when he was twenty-seven.

His training took place on the HMS Raleigh frigate. He was also trained at the naval bases in Hampshire and Loch Fyne. His final military education took place on the HMS Quebec before he was sent out to fight. He was honorably discharged in 1943.
