Oliver Stone
Served in: U.S. Army
Rank: E-2
Best Known For: Platoon, Born on the Fourth of July
Est. Net Worth: $70 million
Oliver Stone has written some hard-hitting, raw depictions of war in his movies, Born on the Fourth of July and Platoon, with the former taking a critical anti-war stance. Stone appears to come by it honestly, as he was enlisted in the Vietnam War, where he specifically requested combat duty.
He enlisted in the Army in 1967. He served from the fall of that year until the spring of 1968. Stone was wounded twice in action as a member of the 2nd Platoon, B Company. He joined the Army after he was despondent at being unable to find a publisher (then) for his earlier works.
