Businessman and actor Paul Newman served in the Navy during WWII, spending his time in Pacific theater. Newman initially enrolled in the V-12 Navy Program, which trained pilots at Yale University, but he was dropped from V-12 after it was discovered that he was colorblind.
Newman didn’t leave the military entirely. He went into the V-5 program and trained as a radioman and rear gunner. The actor served from 1943 until 1946. He was part of the “Veteran of the Day” program hosted by the Veterans Administration in 2018, which is designed to highlight famous veterans throughout history.
