TV star Don Knotts was a member of the U.S. Army, where he served from 1943 until 1946. He achieved the rank of Technician Grade 5, which is the equivalent of a Corporal. After spending three years on active duty, Knotts was honorably discharged. He got his first big break on Search For Tomorrow, a soap opera on which he first appeared in 1953.

Knotts would become most famous for his sitcom roles on The Andy Griffith Show, Three’s Company, Step by Step, Matlock, The Love Boat, Newhart, and more. He died at age eighty-one in February of 2006.
