Roy Scheider was a prominent member of the Jaws franchise. Before he became an actor, he served in the U.S. Air Force. He served from 1955 to 1958, spending the latter part of his service as a member of the Air Force Reserve Command. Scheider became famous later in life. He had roles in the movies Blue Thunder, All That Jazz, and The French Connection before Jaws.

When Jaws hit theaters and ruined the beach for everyone, Scheider was in his forties. He lived long enough to be in Jaws 2, which was released in 1975. Scheider died in 2008 at age 77.
