Jose Rene “J.R.” Martinez is an actor and motivational speaker. He served in the US Army from 2002 until 2003, serving during the Iraq War and attaining the rank of SPC. He was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon for his service. He was honorably discharged after an IED struck his vehicle. He suffered burns to over a third of his body.

He became a motivational speaker, talking about his struggles and how he has overcome them. He began acting in 2008, and he also was on Dancing with the Stars. In his free time, he meets with burn victims at hospitals.
