Jimmy Stewart enlisted in the US Army Air Corps. He started out as an E-1, and he was stationed at California’s Moffett Field base. He reached the rank of Brigadier General in 1959, 18 years after he first enlisted. He flew more than twenty combat missions during WWII.

After leaving the military, Stewart would go on to star in some of the most famous films of the fifties and sixties. For example, he starred in the classic Christmas movie, It’s a Wonderful Life. He was also in Vertigo, an Alfred Hitchcock film, and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.
